There is certainly no lack of aftermarket enhancement products for your diesel trucks. Banks is popular in the market, and they offer the Banks Techni-Cooler system. Banks doesn’t want you to hit the EGT wall, and this intercooler system offers engines cooler, denser air for higher continuous power. Increasing a diesel engine’s fuel flow without also adding more air results in incomplete combustion, black smoke, wasted fuel and lost horsepower. It also builds hotter exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs), causing your tuner to "temp out" and pull back power. With adequate air, the higher oxygen content allows fuel to properly combust, increasing power without smoke or high EGTs. To get more oxygen to the engine, you need to increase the density of the air. Turbochargers increase airflow, but pressurizing the air raises air temperatures substantially, which kills air density.
The solution: larger, more effective intercoolers which substantially lower boost air temperatures. The cooler, denser, more oxygenated intake air allows complete fuel combustion, improving fuel economy and producing lower EGTs. If EGTs never rise to the level where the tuner limits fuel delivery, all the additional power is always available. Lower EGTs also help to reduce the thermal load on the engine and its cooling system, which keeps them running cooler as well. Improving airflow and air density makes a lot more power at any EGT than a computer tuner alone would get. Higher continuous power: isn't that what it's all about? These are the reasons Banks is proud of their product:
- Restrictions removed throughout
- Larger inlet, outlet and boost tubes (some applications)
- Large, durable all-aluminum end tanks
- Thicker core with up to 34% greater volume
- Streamlined High-Ram® intake (some applications)
- Less restriction means greater airflow and cooling capacity
- Delivers maximum reduction in boost air temp with minimum loss of boost pressure
- Packs cool, dense air into the cylinders for higher continuous power and improved fuel economy
- Unlike plastic, aluminum end-tanks won’t melt or burst under high-boost conditions
